Online Initiatives Fall Online Initiative – July Session 7/13/2020
The Fall Online Initiative is designed to assist your transition to online teaching and help you gain familiarity with Blackboard as a teaching tool. It was designed with faculty input and leaves room for reflection, which we hope you will share as well for continuous improvement.
Effective teaching with technology relies on intentional integration of tools with learning practices that are aligned to course objectives. Likewise, the Educational Technology office team and faculty mentors are integrated to support the course delivery process and preparing faculty to teach online.
This fully online training and support initiative will run from: Monday, July 13th through Thursday, July 30th in Blackboard.
Duration: 3 weeks
Approach: Course will have a mix of asynchronous and synchronous activities to expose faculty to these different types of teaching modalities. The synchronous meetings will happen every Wednesday from 3 pm to 4:30 pm through Blackboard Collaborate, where faculty will have an opportunity to engage in active learning activities and group work through break-out sessions facilitated by faculty mentors. The sessions will be recorded, but we strongly recommend faculty to attend these sessions to take the most out of the initiative.
What is expected/recommended before we start:
- Become familiar with the online course development guidelines
- [not required but strongly recommended] If not done before, complete the Hostos Roadmap to Teaching Innovation self-paced course in Blackboard (you are already enrolled in this course, or if not you can self-enroll).
- You will also find a lot of resources for the online development process in our Hostos online learning website.
You will receive the PD Participation Badge after you complete and provide feedback. This will enter you into the EdTech Innovation Chase, which is a game-based digital badging system to provide badges for participating in professional development activities, mentoring, and innovating.
