Prof. Rafael Mejia, Lecturer, Humanities Department

Facilitators: Prof. Jacqueline DiSanto Prof. Antonio Varelas Prof. Nelson Nunez Rodriguez

Description: This session will share a repertoire of useful tools for the Zoom teaching era. Prof. Mejia will build on his extensive experience as a theater and television actor, director and producer. Instructors who moved to the online-teaching scenario in a short period may question their teaching styles and dig into their teaching repertoire to navigate synchronous online sessions. What works? How do we know? How can we reconcile our discipline identities and ways of developing knowledge with these synchronous online-teaching scenarios? Prof. Mejia constructs his approach to online synchronous teaching by exploiting his professional expertise. This session aims to provide useful tips and effective ways to engage students in online synchronous sessions by uncovering simple aspects related to voice, eye contact, lighting, the facilitator's position in relation with the camera, etc. This session will ultimately tackle - ideas mutually effective in developing both online and in-person teaching identities, and ways to evaluate and share those ideas with a wide audience.
